Getting Help With Glass

I have always had problems renovating my home, which is one of the reasons I started focusing so seriously on finding contractors. I began going through and looking for incredible places who could help with everything from replacing my carpet to taking care of finding new glass, and a few months ago, I was able to find a contractor that I felt really great about working with. They went through my home and replaced all of the auto glass, and I was really impressed with how great of a job they did for me. This blog is all about getting help with glass.

How To Choose The Best Glass Shower Door For Your Bathroom

by Lynn Webb

There are various types of glass shower doors available. Choosing the right one depends on what you're trying to achieve. Different shower doors can do different things for different bathrooms. Here's what you need to know to make a good decision:

What Do You Want Your Glass Shower Door To Do?

The main function of a shower door is obvious. If you want a shower door for purely utilitarian reasons, there are still various options for you to choose from. You may want a shower door that can serve a different, or multiple purposes.

A shower door can also do these things as well:

  • Improve the look of your bathroom
  • Add character or a different flavor to your bathroom
  • Offer added comfort or convenience to the shower and tub

Knowing what you want beforehand will make the selection process a lot easier.

What are the Different Types of Glass Shower Doors Out There?

Now that you know what you want your shower door to do, you can start looking at the available types.

Bypass and sliding shower doors – These doors slide to the left or right to allow you access. While they're certainly utilitarian, they can also look great.

Pivot and hinged shower doors – Pivot shower doors usually open outward on hinges. They work best for standalone or walk-in showers. While they can look good, the outward swing may not work well in a smaller bathroom.

Bifold and trifold shower doors – These types of shower doors consist of two or more panes of glass that you can slide to the left or right. They fold on themselves in an accordion fashion. These types of doors often offer an elegant look combined with the utility and space saving of a bypass door.

Round and curved shower doors – Round shower doors open inward. They can open up the shower and allow for more room in one. They work best for standalone showers. They're also typically more aesthetically pleasing than many options.

There are various other lesser-known types of shower doors as well. You can also order a custom design.

With every option, you will also have to choose if you want the shower door framed or frameless. Most would agree frameless shower doors look better and add dimension to your bathroom. However, frameless doors usually require thicker glass and may cost a little more than a framed solution.

What about the Shower Door Glass?

One final consideration is the type of glass you want for your shower door. Many are okay with clear glass. You also have the option of using frosted, textured, tinted, or decorative glass.

Once again, the type of glass will depend on your budget and what you want your shower doors to do for your bathroom. If you start with an idea of what you want from your glass shower door, you'll already find yourself in a good position to choose one that works best for you.
